Small Animal Management

Course Description: This semester course is part of the Animal Science Program of Study and is designed for students to acquire knowledge and skills related to small animals and the small animal management industry. Small Animal Management will address topics related to animals such as small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, avian, dogs and cats. By the end of the course, students will have had the opportunity to earn their fear Free pet handling certification which is designed to provide veterinary and pet professionals with the knowledge and tools to look after both a pet’s physical and emotional wellbeing. Students also have the ability to start working on the requirements needed to earn their Level One Certified Vet Assistant certification, that they then may complete in the Vet Med Applications course.

  • ½ credit, Grades 10-12
  • Required prerequisite (or concurrent) for 10th graders: Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
  • Lab supplies or fee may be required.

Course Goals/Objectives: Students will obtain knowledge and skills in relation to the field of small animal management through hands on learning experiences. 

Certifications: Fear Free Veterinary Professional Certification
